We currently have only one scientific calculator for my chemistry students to access, but with your donation, we could have enough for each student in class! When carrying out calculations, we work with numbers so large (or so small) that they require the use of scientific notation – a function that the basic calculator on a smart phone can’t even handle. Scientific calculators allow students to tackle basic chemistry problems; without them, it can be impractical (if not impossible) for students to solve these problems at the pace required for our curriculum standards. We’re not talking about fancy graphing calculators with the large screens – just the basic scientific calculators that will give students tools to do the math central to chemistry and that allows us to keep pace and meet the chemistry common core standards set by the state of Pennsylvania. The class set of basic scientific calculators that you help to fund will be used almost every day in our chemistry classes, providing students with access to basic technology and improving their opportunities to succeed in science and beyond. Let's close the technology gap together... thank you for your consideration and support!
