With these new books, students will have a wide range of books to choose from right in our classroom. They can borrow them for SSR time in class and to read at home for their 20 minutes of reading a night. The wide range of books and inclusion of many series will help students to grow and continue their love of reading. The reading of high interest books that are an appropriate level will improve students' academic skills. Reading choice books will support their reading in all of their classes, not just ELA. By having many options in the class library, students will be growing their love of reading and improving their academics. As an ELA teacher, it is my goal for students to love reading and to do that I need a robust classroom library. I spend much of my time helping students find the right book for them. While I hope to also direct students to other resources like the school and local library, often the first step to developing their identities as readers starts right in the classroom, with the right book for them. With this boost to my classroom library, I would be able to better serve their needs.
