Students will use this novel to practice reading skills and increase lexile levels, but also to provide an engaging and culturally relevant text in the classroom. Students will read and make real life connections to their journeys and experiences through this colorful 11 year old's testimony. For our multicultural students it is often a struggle to see how literature ties into our daily lives on a daily basis simply because they do not have access to the multicultural literature in the classroom. My goal is to highlight the multicultural literature that is out there to help them see that reading literature is the gateway to good writing and language acquisition.

About my class
