As teachers (and as former students) we know that the outcome to the question "can we please have class outside today?" will be limited productivity and more behavior management for us. But what if going outside to escape the heat really is the answer? I've had the maintenance department install bars on my windows so that I can leave the windows open at night, I've installed fans on timers, and I've blocked the heat from the vents that won't seem to stop pouring hot air into my classroom: now it is time to go for the big guns - air conditioning! I'm requesting one Frigidaire-15 window air conditioner for our classroom. I already have power run to the logical location. Now, I just need the 20th Century technology to greatly improve the outcomes of the teaching I do every (hot) day (in the fall and spring).
