This project will allow students the opportunity to make tied fleece blankets in service learning class that they will then deliver and donate to local nursing homes for Christmas. A lot of our students aren't provided with a chance to give back to others and we are teaching them empathy as well as helping others through service learning. This experience will allow our students the ability to help others during the Holiday season. It will also help our community as local nursing home patients will be receiving these blankets as a Christmas gift. The community will be able to see our students in a positive light, which can also serve as a self esteem booster for our students enrolled in alternative education.
Different academic skills will be touched on in this project as well such as taking measurements and other various Math skills needed. Our students will also be learning social skills as well as collaboration as they will be working in pairs during this service learning project.
Our goal is to have these blankets made and delivered to nursing homes for Christmas!
