Many of the programs we use in elementary computers require the students to listen to instructions using the headphones. Many of our headphones only work a portion of the time and have shorts in them causing much frustration for young learners. In addition, many of the mouse pads in my room are falling apart. This is extremely frustrating for little hands that are just learning to use the mouse to manipulate items on the screen. By having quality headphones and mouse pads, students will be able to focus on the learning activities at hand and will not face the challenge of just getting the equipment to work!
