The impact that a single, multi-dimensional story can have on a students' academic and emotional growth is unparalleled. My hope for this novel set is that my students and I will engage in meaningful, in-depth discussion and analysis of this YA novel that delves into the experiences of a young boy and his family going through homelessness and financial struggle. During my first year of teaching in this Title One environment, I was in awe and yet saddened by how aware these children could be of their circumstances. I want us to grow and understand together what it means to overcome such obstacles and build individual resilience all the while exploring the correlation between critical thinking and inferring theme and character traits.
