Storyworks magazine is a wonderful resource that provides students with a variety of literature to read. My students need something fresh and new to help them engage with reading. I buy new books to add to the classroom library but I am unable to purchase more than a handful of books every school year. Having a magazine like Storyworks available to the students means they are exposed to different kinds of writing that is relevant to them. The magazine "Qué Tal" provides my students reading material that is about current topics and is written at a Spanish level that is challenging while still being accessible. I like using magazines with my students because much of the material is written in shorter pieces. They don't have to worry about reading a whole book, but will still find something that pushes them to think and engage with what they are reading. Finally, one of the best parts of using these types of magazines in the classroom is that when you finish working with them at school they can go home with the students! Families will reap the benefits of this project too!
