My students are hard working students who are passionate about the field of engineering. Unfortunately, so many of the materials to create an engineering lab have a high cost to purchase. We are being very creative with our resources and utilizing what we can to build our engineering program. All our Introduction to Engineering Design students will learn how to use AutoDesk, which is a 3D part modeling program. Our hope is that students won't need to be stuck with just creating those images in the computer. Having access to a 3D printer will allow our students to bring their ideas and creations to life. We see engineering here as the application of math and science. While we learn engineering, we are giving meaning and purpose to their math and science content. The addition of tools such as these will allow us to make the learning even more authentic for our students, which will increase student buy in and student outcomes.
