Tremendous reading growth is expected in first grade. Children come in reading a level C book and are expected to exit reading a level I book, which is the end of the year standard. It is the biggest reading jump in a students elementary school career. Providing various ways to encourage reading can jump start a child's motivation to pick up a book and read, especially for the hesitant reader who doesn't like to traditionally sit at their desk to read. Comfy soft seats would allow my students to choose a just right reading spot in the classroom. The seats would also help my students understand that reading can happen anywhere.
