I will be using the food items as positive behavioral reinforcement by offering the items to students who are on task and behaving and collaborating appropriately. I give students "T-Bills" which are school sanctioned positive reinforcment tickets that can be exchanged for items the students would want. This allows students to see, in a concrete manner, that engagement with the curriculum can bring them positive results. We have a school-wide positive reinforcement "store" but it is only open for a short time each week, so having items in my classroom will allow students immediate positive reinforcement when they are on task. This is help them in their learning. Teaching and reinforcing positive behaviors is essential to student success in the classroom and in life. The books I have ordered will be part of a classroom library with book that reflect student diversity. This will allow students to have good books readily accessible to them in the classroom, thus encouraging them to read more.
