In all of my classes, students sing on a regular basis; having a piano to accompany their practice makes a huge difference. As a musician with piano as my chief instrument, I’m able to guide them in any number of styles. Further, we do two school-wide shows each year, before the New Year break and for Memorial Day. Being able to prepare the show songs with a piano will make a huge difference in the students’ comfort level, as well as in their pitch and rhythmic accuracy. I also will use keyboard during classtime in ear training exercises and musical games; there really is no substitute for live music making!
