The materials from this project will provide students with a "soft start" to their school day. As they enter and eat breakfast, they will engage in open-ended exploration of the building and fine motor materials, such as dominoes, stencils, and Magnetic Mosaic pieces, encouraging both creativity and socialization. This gives them the important time they need to ready themselves for the school day - shifting gears from the challenges presented at home to the demands of the school day. A soft start to our day allows time for students to explore their creativity, develop their fine motor skills, collaborate with their peers, and challenge their scientific thinking! We have already begun our soft start with materials I have purchased on my own - and it has been the perfect opening activity for my eager and motivated learners! I can already see my students using the Magnetic Building blocks and K'NEX to build houses, towers, and more. They can use the Wikki Stix to create pictures, words, and intricate designs. The sky is the limit for their creativity and level of engagement!
