When my students walk into our classroom, I see their little faces and think to myself "I need to do everything in my power to help them grow academically." You see, most of my students are struggling readers and as their teacher I need to provide them with what they need in order for them to transition to third grade with confidence. I need to give them the tools they need to become better readers. I strongly believe that having a listening center WILL help them build the skills they need in order to read proficiently. This center will provide a model for fluent reading, provide visuals, and will allow students to hear, see, and read words that otherwise they wouldn't be able to read on their own.
