The students at Sullivan Middle School are always excited for their music classes. Over 70% of my students are minorities, 70% are considered high needs, and more than half of my students are economically disadvantaged. Despite the majority being disadvantaged, they come to school everyday with an eagerness to become better students and growing consumers of music. With an increase in student population this year, Sullivan Middle School created a second general music class. Since only one music class existed before, I currently share all music equipment with the other general music teacher and am hoping to supply my students with the tools to better appreciate music and become budding musicians. We have also created a band for the first time in nearly two decades but currently do not have any instruments, but have a group of students who are extremely excited to learn how to play!
