We are expanding one of our units that focuses on drawing, design, and architecture. We'll be going over a lot core construction planning principles like scale and perspective before moving onto designing elements of residential framing, plumbing, and electrical systems. With these donated supplies students will be able to make their ideas come off the page and continue the design process by creating model homes using cardboard. After completing blue prints students use craft knifes to carefully cut out cardboard to size and use glue guns to put it together. These tools will make it possible to complete some of the projects that we would typically make in the school's wood shop. My students are missing out on learning to use hand tools, power tools, and computer assisted tools such as the laser cutter and CNC router, but this is a great way to explore a lot of the core concepts in the meantime.
