First grade is where the basics are key. We want to ensure every student polishes their skills from Kindergarten and really takes charge of them moving forward. In our school district, first grade has the highest rate of "repeaters". My goal is to bring that number down by building on a stronger foundation. Students need to be confident in their ability to perform without any doubt that they will be successful, because of the hard work they've put in! These math activities can be student led and allow the children to learn from each other. They will have the ability to show their strengths and help others with weaknesses. The language and writing activities are vital pieces of what makes a good reader, and that is important across all subjects. Students thrive on routine and the more they write, the better writers they will become. I do not want writing skills to fall away in a world where it is easy to do so, due to phones, texts, emojis, etc. Please help my students sharpen their skills and their minds with these back to school basics to build an amazing foundation!
