Many of my students do not have books at home. Being a new teacher to English Language Arts, I do not have a nice library collection of books to offer my students like my mentor teachers. I feel these books would be a treasure to my students who have already shown their love for reading. We have a genre challenge starting in October and having different books to chose from would put a smile on their faces. I believe this is a critical time to have access to books and explore their interests if they are to become life long readers.
