The point of the rock garden is to make our NEW school colorful and inviting as well as showing the students that they are all together in unity. Not one rock will be exactly the same just as our students are all different and unique in their own way! We want to seize the opportunity to teach respect and kindness towards all through this project and have it displayed as a continuous reminder to our students and staff. As a part of our school, we adopted the Restorative Practices model. In support of this model, I would like to lead students through a discussion of their differences and recognizing that those differences don’t make a person superior or inferior to another. I want to have students paint a garden rock in a way that represents themselves. The rocks are made into a garden or display. When all the garden stones are arranged together, it will be heartwarming to see the diversity among students and how natural it is for them to embrace each other while understanding their differences. Overall, the idea is to make this rock garden a place of kindness and respect. The supplies we need includes rocks to paint, one for each student and staff member, paint to make the rocks unique, paint brushes in order to paint the rocks, and sealer in order for our rocks to be able to weather the storms.
