Our world revolves around social media. From teachers to students, we find ourself constantly scrolling through the various apps at all times of the day. Recently there has been a new trend in DIY (Do-It-Yourself) projects stemming from the popular social media app known as "Pinterest".
Many students use "Pinterest" as a creative outlet where they can explore different ideas ranging from art projects to decorations for their room or even costumes for the upcoming play. As exciting as this may sound, most of these ideas stay "pinned" to their board on the app because they simply don't have the funds or the means to gather the supplies necessary to complete these DIY project. Our school has recently changed the curriculum to include 8 days in the school year where students will have two hours in the day to participate in teacher-led activities which they enjoy. The activities which I will be running part of this program will include recreating some of the best DIY projects from Pinterest.
The students will start off the year by creating and painting fall-themed mason jars which they can ultimately use to organize their school supplies. Students will be creating various other DIY projects ranging from painting and decorating inspiration quotes on wooden blocks, making ornaments throughout the holiday season as well as creating sugar scrubs and bath bombs from scratch. This will provide a creative outlet for students who sometimes can only dream about these types of activities due to lack of financial means.
I thank you in advance for any support you can provide for my students!
