My students are not only eager to learn, but they are ready to learn each day when they pass through our classroom door. We are a lower income county where there is little funding in our school system to provide larger ticket items that will aid in the learning of our students. We spend 2/3 of our day on the carpet. From morning messages to story time to dancing/singing to making friends. We do some of our best work when working together on the carpet. Academic time, social time, and recess (one day a week) are spent in our carpet area. I believe children learn from each other and teach each other through movement and play. The carpet area gives us the space and the boundaries we need to fully use that time together to our advantage. Forming relationships with each other enhances the learning experience and brings long term friendships to life. Currently, we are using a carpet that has been in our school for many years. It is starting to fray on the corners and turning up which could be a tripping hazard. After many shampoos it is still stained and dingy due to the many little feet that has crossed it's path on their way to a higher education.
