I am requesting hands on materials for learning centers for my students. My students learn best from moving and touching. These games all teach foundational skills for reading and for math competency and will bridge great learning gaps. In using these games, students will be excited to learn, rather than unhappy about another day of work. Every day we will have stations where students take turns to play games to learn. I have requested a self stick easel pad to use to post rules for learning and playing together and a timer to time students as they work at different learning stations. In Math, students will play games to solidify their understanding of place value and of beginning algebraic thinking. They will use a number balance, missing added puzzles, and snap and slide number bonds. Students will play bingo games to practice skills from subtraction to decoding words for reading. Also, the kids will play with personal electronic boards to build sight word fluency. Additionally, I am requesting trackers for students with special needs in reading. Many of my students would benefit from seeing only a portion of the text at a time versus being overwhelmed or defeated by what second grade students are expected to read and comprehend.
