The materials that I am requesting will be put to good use. Many of my students have little, if any, appreciation for reading. It is my mission to teach my students to love reading. I want them to feel as though the books I am requesting are theirs. This sense of ownership will go a long way in capitalizing on their comfort level. The books I have chosen are the best of the required readings. I chose them because they have depth that my students will appreciate. Adventures abound in a good book! This is a teachable skill if approached in the right way. My classroom is a student-centered space, one in which students drive instruction. I want my students to be able to choose the order of their novels. I plan to organize a book tasting, whereby my students read the synopsis of several novels and decide which is the best fit for our classroom.
