A general survey of my students has revealed no previous biology lab in all of their science classes. The students will be getting a broad exposure to the animal classes with these specimens, especially appreciating the diversity within the arthropod class. The starfish, bees, and crayfish, unlike most lab specimens, come in large quantities, so the students will get to be in pairs for their observations and dissection of these animals. The Crop Survey kit will be used towards the end of our botany semester showing the variety of crops in appearance and serve as concrete examples for the group project afterwords when they present on a crop. With this being an upper level science class, they should be learning dissection skills to prepare them for college science labs as well as being given opportunities to have hands-on learning experiences with science. Thank you for making science live and interesting for my students.
