Students will use these materials to engage in mindful lunchtime meditation, where they will practice turning inward and focusing their mind for a period of time on the present moment without judgment. The meditation mats, aromatherapy oil diffuser and speaker for instrumental music will be used to create a special, calming atmosphere, a reprieve from the inevitable daily pressures of teenage life. Students will engage in deep breathing, while focusing on personal affirmations of their choosing. Through a guided stilling of the mind, students will learn to focus on the here and now while releasing negativity. The benefits for all students, though particularly those who have or continue to experience trauma, are endless, ranging from an increase in emotional regulation and concentration and a decrease in feelings of fear, anxiety, and stress. The donations for this project will be catalyst in changing students' ability to cope with and conquer current and future obstacles.
