I would like to supply each student with a one-subject spiral notebook that has storage pockets. They will be used as Interactive Science Notebooks to record data and information they gather, make illustrations, and draw conclusions from experiments and investigations that they will conduct during science class. The pockets will be used to store additional hand outs that they may receive and need to save during the science lesson. The purpose of creating Interactive Notebooks is to maximize student engagement and to tap into their natural ability to express and represent what they learn through writing and drawing. They also allow me to have alternative ways of accessing their learning. In this way, they serve as a more authentic type of assessment. My students have demonstrated an amazing ability to express what they know through their writing, diagrams, and drawings based on what they've learned. In supplying each student with this particular notebook, I will ensure that they are each equipped with the primary tool that they will need as we begin a new school full of science exploration.
