This is a challenging year for our MSD (Moderate to Severe Disabilities) program in our small district. We went from 9 students with MSD to 13 students in same category with expanded support levels. Previous students were able to use language to communicate and learn. This year, of the 5 new students, 2 are functionally non-verbal and 1 can name objects and generally participate. Two of the five new students are able to recognize letters or numbers, cannot write but can trace. One young man is the only student in the school with a wheelchair. He has paraplegia and upper limbs are weak. the best part of our new classroom is they are all wonderful human beings--funny, creative, endearing to all who know them.
