Math is not just a classroom exercise, it is interwoven into all of life's big and little problems. If we teach math as a disconnected specialized subject, kids can lose the wonder and excitement that comes from a truly inquisitive nature about numbers and their relationship to the world around us. From pondering infinity to calculating how many guinea pigs can fit on a plane, these books were chosen to get my students excited about solving life's puzzles through mathematical exploration. These books will have a special home in our cozy reading corner. They will be available for students to borrow during reading times, and many will be used for math read alouds related to specific 4th grade math units. What could be more fun than pulling math off of the worksheets and letting it run wild in our students imaginations?!
