Flexible seating will allow my students to meet their sensory needs while increasing sustained engagement with the curriculum. The ability to provide choice and comfort has a direct positive correlation with student engagement. Students are able to focus for sustained periods of time when provided seating choices that meet their unique sensory needs. I have observed the positive benefits to student learning when sensory needs are met in the classroom. Wobble stools engage core muscle and provide adjustable height seating, noise reducing headphones allow students to focus and not be distracted. Yoga in the classroom assists students with self regulation, breathing and trauma. Stretch bands provide safe movement opportunities.
