Our high school consists of middle to lower income students, many of whom are on free and reduced lunch. My students are economically disadvantaged and experientially disadvantaged. The school itself is so poor that teachers don't always have adequate supplies, such as the dictionaries that I am requesting. My classroom has 11 dictionaries, none of which are the same. I teach 11th and 12th graders who need access to language skills and vocabulary to compete in the world when they graduate. My school has not met Adequate Yearly Progress in a number of years, and one of the reasons is a lack of materials such as dictionaries that others take for granted. It's a small thing, but to know that someone thought enough of them to give them access to words could be a monumental breakthrough for some of them.
