The elementary students that will benefit from these books/supplies have limited opportunities to learn about and discuss global current events. They are intelligent enough to be future problem solvers if introduced to the issues that will affect their generation. They have qualified for gifted services. Enriching their academic experience with quality books (Frindle and Bud, not Buddy) and magazines (Time For Kids) allow them to think globally and begin to be stewards of our planet. I have used Time For Kids and grade level text in the past and have found them to be wonderful tools that cause incredibly rich discussion and learning opportunities.
