Our high school students with special needs require an added level of support through relationship building and creative learning. The headphones will be used so that each Special Education teacher will have a class set to support students utilizing online research-based reading and math instruction. Many students become embarrassed during basic phonics and math work and shut down easily. When students have headphones they can continue their work without worrying about the judgment of peers. Our students are teenagers on elementary school reading and math levels, with the headphones they will be able to focus on their work and be more confident in their academic growth. Engaging students in developing and practicing social and emotional skills is critical to their short-term and long-term success. The games and question jars requested will be used in developing skills in a fun and engaging ways. Students will learn basic math and reading skills, practice writing through innovative prompts, build relationships, develop skills to manage anger, practice positive coping strategies, and learn the importance of mindfulness. By using this alternative route to learning, students will be engaged in tasks and excited to learn more. With your help and support, our kids are sure to succeed academically, socially, and develop the transition, emotional, and behavioral skills to be independent and confident.
