As an older teacher, I have recognized the need to use technology to enhance my teaching and equip my students with 21st century skills. I teach with younger teachers who make it look so easy. They are always sharing new ideas with me that involve technology in a variety of ways. I have committed to not only teach myself these skills but also to share them with my students. In my classroom, students use Chromebooks on a regular basis in almost every subject. This year my students will create a digital memory book that showcases their projects and growth throughout the year. Students will include written goals, as well as written reflections on these projects. At the end of the year, students will be able to have a digital record of this growth to take with them. In addition, I use Chromebooks daily to engage my students in spelling games and activities. I even had several students excitedly ask if they could use the program at home to work on their spelling. Of course! Lastly, I use Google Classroom as a means to communicate assignments and projects to students in both science and social studies. It allows me to include links to kid-friendly websites when we are researching scientific phenomenon, historical events, and historical figures. As I increase my use of technology in my lessons, it increases the need for student's access to this technology. Chromebooks would help facilitate and enhance their learning.
