My beginning readers love books, but often lack the skills and confidence to read independently. I am fortunate to have received a grant that gave my students access to 1:1 devices. Each student gets to use an iPad throughout the year across the curricular areas. In reading, students need headphones to be able to hear "read aloud" books as they use their iPads for a portion of our reading time. Headphones will provide students access to strong models of fluent reading. Often times, first graders' ears are too small for fragile earbuds that tangle and break easily. Headphones will allow all students to read books on the iPad and remain focused, rather than distracted by the sounds of others in the room. I believe these headphones will allow my students greater access to technology and motivate them to take on the task of reading with confidence and enthusiasm. They will be used daily this year and for years to come.
