With the introduction of an afterschool chess club we will be able to provide our students with an invaluable learning and social opportunity. Furthermore, since this was a student-led initiative to get the club started it will continue to be a student taught club. We have already begun lesson planning with our student leaders that will teach and lead the chess club. We are excited to see a truly ‘grassroots’ movement with the desire and passion for a chess club coming from our students. This project will provide us with 20 chess sets. These sets will allow students to learn and play the game along with each other in a challenging and stimulating format. We look forward to the teacher-student and student-student chess playing and teaching that is soon to come.
