All of my students have the potential to achieve success, but we currently do not have the resources to engage and enhance their educational experience. Going into my second year of teaching a moderate/severe special ed. class, I want to provide my students with the resources they need and deserve. Last year, I walked into an empty classroom and a district that has a budget deficit. I spent a significant amount of my money on the teachers-pay-teachers website and bought a lot of black and white, paper, curriculum. While the material was sufficed for last year, this year I want the students to be successful and enjoy school even more. Special Education students will thrive when their learning is full of colorful, visual, tactile, and engaging materials. Given this, the items I chose will allow the students to "play" during our three centers: Math, Reading, and Writing. Many of the behaviors that we saw last year were due to task avoidance, trouble writing, not engaged, and boredom. This year, I want students to be having so much fun, that they don't realize they are learning and doing work. The positional word box will allow them to have fun moving the animals around the objects using the task cards; the echo phones will help with our emerging language students and assist with communication skills. The reading and language folders promote learning while teaching independent skills at the same time. My three Kindergarten students entering my class this school year will benefit from the letters activity kit. Finally, two of my students have trouble sitting in classroom chairs, and one has tilted her chair back too far and has fallen twice. The wobbly chairs will allow them to move comfortably while working.
