My students come to school with excitement and passion for learning. However, many of them are not equipped with the basic knowledge needed to learn how to read. Often times I find students who are just learning their alphabet, have difficulty with rhyming, or have never been read to. Other times there are students who have learned how to read but cannot comprehend what they are reading. I have found that my students LOVE having the opportunity to look at new books and share what they find with their peers. During read-aloud time, their full attention is on the story and you can see their imaginations flowing with the characters in the books. Our school has a positive atmosphere and tries to provide classrooms with the basic materials needed. Many of the students at our school do not have active parents at home so their school life is a major influencing factor for their success.
