When students enter my classroom, I want them to have every opportunity to be comfortable and fully engaged in their learning experience. With this, students will be able to obtain the most information and will be able to get the most out of their educational experience each and every day. With the students needs in mind, I am trying to implement a flexible seating environment in my classroom. In using yoga balls as chairs, students will be given a flexible seating environment, one in which traditional seating charts are replaced with seating arrangements that allow the students to sit where they choose. According to educational research, giving students the opportunity to chose what type of seat they want to sit in will better meet their physical and cognitive needs. Furthermore, the opportunity for this added furniture in our classroom will help students remain actively engaged in the lesson being taught, rather than focusing on the comfort of the chair in which they sit. Having a flexible seating environment will allow students the opportunity to independently select their seat throughout my classroom, which will, in turn, enhance a students ability and desire to succeed.
