The Barack Obama Academy of International Studies, an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School is a 6-12 public school with a 940+ student enrollment that is 80.7% minority and 61.7% female. 73.7% of our students are deemed economically disadvantaged. All 11th and 12th grade students are enrolled in rigorous IB classes and have the option to take IB exams to earn an IB diploma, which can improve the acceptance rate for college applications. Our school consistently achieves high graduation rates, but is trying to bridge the digital divide with our makerspace. These resources will give minority and female student access to modern STEM-related activities, thereby elevating student participation in those topics and increasing proficiency in math and science testing.
