Fuller School of Excellence is a Chicago Public turn-around school serving students and families on the southside of Chicago. 7 years ago the school was at risk of being shut down and an organization, AUSL, took the school over, promising to turn it around in 5 years. Keeping the school open secured a neighborhood school for families to send their kids to. Promising to turn the school around and improve the culture of the school gave families the confidence that their kids would be ensured a higher quality education. Each day Fuller staff and faculty work to better the environment and learning for the students. I work with 70 students who want a chance and want someone to believe in them. Math can be difficult, but each day I do my best to make sure each student learns and masters as much of the math as they can and that being in my classroom is somewhere they feel safe, loved, and confident.
