The items that I am requesting will help my students to be successful both academically and socially. We struggle currently to listen and participate in reading and writing across the curriculum. There is a great deal of fidgeting, moving around and talking out of turn due to both internal and external stimuli. I've realized this is due to the current design of the class. My students have obvious sensory issues along with their various learning disabilities; which includes a significant deficit with the ability to retain information, read (many are 2 or more grade levels behind and or nonreaders) and write. I'd love to provide my students with an atmosphere that meets their physical needs as well as their academic and emotional needs; so that they are able to learn. With these items, they can fidget without being disruptive. The can practice independent reading with audio books and games to improve spelling and vocabulary; building confidence. They can access noise blocker headphones to help them tune out some of the noises that are typical expect to hear in a class but are extremely bothersome to others. My goal is to help my students to become comfortable, confident, knowledgeable and successful young members of the society.
