My students face a variety of physical and sensory challenges throughout their day. These challenges often affect their ability to learn and demonstrate skills. I am noticing that the traditional classroom furniture we currently use is not what best meets their needs. Research is showing us that our standard classroom design is not developmentally appropriate for young children; their bodies and minds are not maximized by traditional classroom design. I would like to incorporate more choices for seating and movement in our classroom.
When students sit on stability balls both sides of their brain are engaged in keeping their bodies centered on the balls; when the brain is stimulated it is more focused on learning. The Balance Ball Chairs will provide this stimulation and will allow my students the ability to move around when they are learning. The Big Beanbag Seats will provide comfortable seating to my students during literacy activities. The Giant Comfy Pillow will be used in our "quiet area" and will help to create a calm space for students when they need a break.
These materials will provide more appropriate and effective sensory input options in our classroom. My students work hard each day to overcome physical and sensory challenges, and these seating options will complete one more piece of this puzzle for them.
