I teach 5th grade in a great school. The student population is very diverse. It is a great mix of students, however, there are clear and apparent socio-economic issues throughout. These issues make it tough to grab some of their attention, as their mind is thinking of issues that may be troubling them in their home-life. Engaging students is a priority and we must try many different ways of teaching to grab their attention.
