Often times the students I counsel are unaware of their own feelings and the feelings of others. By them having a comfortable place to sit, they are able to hear and even read the stories about feelings and how to deal with them. We all have feelings and emotions, it is what we do with them that makes us powerful. My students aren't normally given the opportunity to express themselves in a positive way. With the help of the pillows, they can comfortably sit while we work on identifying our emotions and connect with the characters we are reading and learning about. Students should be able to learn using all five of their senses. With the kinetic sand and water marbles, my students will be able to conquer their sensory needs while learning. As a Counselor at the Elementary level, play therapy is so important. Using different manipulatives like the kinetic sand and water marbles, students can learn all while having fun. These are also great ice breakers or can be apart of their cool down kits.
