At my school, most of our students do not have access to internet, much less computers at home. We are a Title I school, with over 95% of our students falling below the poverty level. We rely on waning federal funds to give our students the highest quality education we can provide. In today's society, competing in the job, is it absolutely essential to be proficient in Digital Media Literacy, but we cannot do that if we can't get technology in their hands. In our Journalism class, students will learn how to create and build a school newspaper for mass production and gain essential digital media literacy skills to be competitive in the workforce. This computer will be the start of getting technology in their hands so that they can explore all of the opportunities available to them as students, creators, and eventually employees in the workforce.
