It was recently decided in my state to change the mandated testing for kindergarten students. What used to be a pencil and paper test done by the teachers has now become an online test our kindergarten students must take on their own, at least three times per year. Given our low income/high poverty rate, the easiest way for my students to complete this assessment is by iPad. Currently, I, as well as the other teachers, only have one iPad to share among our class. By completing this project, my students will now have 5 iPads to share, greatly reducing loss of instructional time testing. In addition, Apple has updated their iOS and added a new feature where students can have their own login. This allows for personalized home screens where I can download educational apps best suited to their needs. The options are limitless when you put technology in the hands of a child.
