Sometimes, even the simplest things like batteries, stand in the way of a great experiment. There are items that need to be replaced frequently, and others that can be used over and over for many years. We spend a good portion of the year discussing electricity in our classroom, and how important it is in our everyday lives. We examine how it is made, what circuits consist of and look like, and how we can conserve electricity. We all know that children learn by DOING. When they are able to dig into a project full throttle, and examine different parts, they have a better understanding. Having equipment readily available for my students will make a huge impact on their learning. I would like to have a few more circuit kits available so students could work in smaller groups hands-on with materials. The Snap Circuit Kits are easy to build from and kids love the challenge of creating different circuits with the electrical blocks. Having light bulbs, batteries, alligator clips and light bulb holders will also help them build more realistic models of circuits and might even inspire some of my young scientists to become electricians. Last but not least, the safety goggles will help with may different experiments throughout the year, but I can't wait to use them when we build our lemon battery! These will protect kids' eyes from the acidic lemon juice.
