I have found in my classroom that my students are consistently looking for ways to continue exploring the world through their learning. The block area is fun, but some children eventually find it something that they have already mastered. I would like to have this building block (lego) center for the boys, mainly because most centers like housekeeping, dollhouse, etc... aren't geared towards their interests. Boys are known to be tougher to pull into the learning process, and I truly feel this would appeal to them. However, I also know I may have some creative girls in my classroom that might be future engineers and want to try the center out. This activity table is special because it fits both the bigger sized building blocks to start with, and then midyear when they show that they are ready, it lets them use regular sized Legos to build whatever their imagination can think of. I also like that it's close to the ground, hence the need for a rug, to prevent too many lost pieces, and it has 4 distinct building areas so they can each have their own space to work independently, yet work together if they wish to as well.
