Many of my students have never left the state of New Mexico. My school is located in a remote area of the Navajo Reservation in New Mexico. We are far from the nearest town or store. I teach 11th and 12th grade U.S. History and Government. Many of my forty-nine students live without electricity or running water. Students live in houses dispersed around the reservation, traveling up to an hour on the bus to reach the school. All my students are Navajo and all receive free school lunch and breakfast. For many, these are the only meals that they receive each day.
