I have been with these students for three years now and it is my goal to make this year the best one yet! We are a testing grade, so hands-on learning that facilitates the rigor of Common Core Standards will help my students master strategies needed. Materials are low at my school, so increasing the use of appropriate manipulatives would significantly increase students ability to learn new skills being taught! The materials I chose for this project are hands-on mathematics manipulatives as well as tools that allow for better student organization. These tools will allow my students to explore mathematics, specifically fractions, measurement, and multiplication in a hands-on way with strong visual supports. As part of our county policy and testing standards, students must be able to model and analyze their mathematical findings and be able to determine if their answer makes sense. In my experience, it's challenging for students to model and show their understanding of math without physically being able to show it! These materials will help my students be able to model with mathematics during this entire year! As far as organizational supplies go, these bins and crates will allow students to be able to independently organize themselves as well as our classroom. Students will know where all their math tools and manipulatives are, which will allow them to take part in independent learning. Students will be able to use these tools when needed, which will foster independence!
